Network Marketing, and specifically, the brand that integrates personal development into the model, has been an extraordinary gift to me. I am not remotely the same person I was 30 years ago, when I first joined.

Network Marketing is the “It” way for anyone – regardless of their education, vocation, location, or financial resources – to build an asset from scratch to millions. And it can be done within four to five years. One cannot do that in real estate or the equities markets; although, the cash flow from a Network Marketing business can certainly allow you to participate in those wealth-building vehicles.
This concept, created by California Vitamins in the 1950s, is a $100 billion dollar industry today, supported by more than 30 million distributors. There is no question that the concept itself works. There is always, however, the question of whether an individual or individual company works.
I have seen, in the past 30 years, hundreds of so-called miracle cure products; hundreds of change-the-world companies; and tens of thousands of “I am going to make a billion” sales leaders. The louder they all banged their drums, the quicker they tended to become one of our sad statistics. There are some “Commitments,” or core values, if you will, that I have seen penetrate all the hope-filled hype, create the core goodness of our industry, and create the substance and, most importantly, the longevity of it.
A commitment, by the way, is not a guarantee of performing perfectly. It is a promise to honor and uphold a value, or an outcome, regardless of how inconvenient, difficult, unpopular, or even expensive it may be to do so. Even those with great excellence and honor make mistakes, miss the mark, or get faced with a choice that does not honor their commitment. Those who are committed acknowledge their setback and recommit to uphold the bar.
Here are a few commitments to contemplate. If they resonate with you, spread them around. If they irritate you, please do us all a favor and find a new industry.
|
Company Commitments |
|
| 1. | A commitment to the longevity of their Network Marketing compensation model. A 100-year Network Marketing business plan. Without this, there is no Residual Income or Asset Value of the distributorship. |
| 2. | A commitment to honor, champion, and protect those distributors who do the same for the company. Success is not solely up to the sales leaders, nor the company. It is a 100 percent partnership of shared values and vision. |
| 3. | A commitment to develop the very best products possible and to market them legally and responsibly. Any idiot can hype or lie about a product. It takes vision and courage to develop the best product possible and market them responsibly. |
| 4. | A commitment to design and market the opportunity in a legal and responsible manner. The same goes for the money. It is easy to promise the moon … and much harder for the individual new distributor to land on it. |
|
Field Leaders’ Commitments
|
|
| 1. | A commitment to listen to prospects, more than just selling them. Listening honors and builds trust. Selling dissolves it. |
| 2. | A commitment to promote products and the opportunity, legally and responsibly. |
| 3. | A commitment to only represent a company that is committed to the above commitments. |
| 4. | A commitment to focusing on the success of others, as the strategy for your own success. |
| 5. | A commitment to be loyal to your company. |
| 6. | A commitment to carefully choosing a company that honors your values and “marry them for better and for worse.” |
| 7. | A commitment to your own passionate personal development path, developing core beliefs that have you play full-out. |
| 8. | A commitment to a “Do the Right Thing” leadership philosophy. Doing what others are afraid to do. |
| 9. | A commitment to championing every other honorable company and field leader in our industry out of a commitment to their success. |
| 10. | A commitment to self-honesty and integrity. Walking our talk, playing for authenticity, and holding ourselves accountable. |
Every one of you who is out there, building your dream, can make it come true. Make sure your company is honoring your values, your credibility, and your investment. Then stick with them through thick and thin, and build, for yourself, the empire you deserve.
A mere $5,000 a month in residual income is valued at over $1 million. There are no good reasons why you cannot build yourself into a multimillionaire. It may take 5 to 10 years. And those 5 to 10 years are going to fly by anyway – whether you are making them count, or not.
Make 2013 a great year for you. Draw a line in the sand and declare, “From this day forward, I will not be denied. I will make every day count; every encounter count; every conversation count; and every thought count.”
Your legacy will thank you for it.
